PICT0001
The last of my peonies !
I promised myself that I would ring the decorator before I blogged again- well this morning I did and am now waiting for him to come and price the job. It has taken me six weeks to finally make the effort and contact him. Am I proud of myself ?. YES !

After having the paths and patio jet-washed I decided to buy new garden furniture. I had chosen a green plastic set but when Paul and family were here Chris told me about a very nice set she had seen in line I looked at it and decided that that was the one I wanted. It arrived today and after hours of messing about putting the legs on the table Damian finally got it set up for me. What is it about flat-pack things that makes it so difficult for the amateur to do the job easily ? Fortunately the chairs are folding so didn't need any work done to them. I took some photos but sadly for some strange reason they aren't downloading at the moment. Thank you Paul and Chris, it's great.  Someone came this morning to sort out the damp in the chimney breast so that will be done on Thursday - at long last I've taken the plunge and am getting all those " little " jobs done before I go away  The decorator is coming tomorrow to give me a quote- it's all happening here
At times the TV is a wonderful tool for learning as I found that during WW1 the UK was subject to bombing raids from German Zeppelins. The first raid on London was in May 1915 when 28 people were killed and 60 injured, in September 38 were killed and 124 injured. Cities as far apart as Edinburgh and Sunderland were raided as were many towns along the South and East coasts. The Germans lost so many Zeppelins that the raids finished in 1917 with the total loss of life as 556 people killed and 1,357 injured. Imagine how frightening these raids must have been as Zeppelins were silent enemies unlike the planes in WW2 whose noise was a sure sign of an air raid. It took a while for the newly formed air force to find out how to shoot the airships down but eventually they won. It must have been scary to see one of those huge Zeppelins filled with gas blowing up !

yay!

This is the revolution ,Marie . You purchase online . You are renovating all the house and the garden . How nice it will be . I guess when the work will be ended you will gather the family to celebrate the new home . The champagne will flow.
I believe I remembered the bombing by Zeppelins . I understand the terror of the inhabitants of the towns but I am sure the crew of those airships was frightened  too since those Zeppelin were  filled with....hydrogen !!
The two black cats are great and faithful companions and enjoy your beautiful garden.
love

I love the peony blossom.  I did not get any photos this year since we had storms that blasted them to bits nearly as soon as they bloomed, and after that we had some unusual heat and that did them in.  It wasn't a good year for peonies here; I believe the ice storms or something affected the blossom set.  This was the fewest blossoms I've ever had.

Sounds as though you are putting to rights everything inside and outside!  What will the decorator be doing for you?

I have had problems with photos everywhere the last couple of days.  It's very frustrating.  I'll keep an eye out for some new ones from you!

It does feel great when long waited for decorating is underway, and finally completed!

To experience those raids would have been absolutely frightening.

Enjoy your lovely summer weather, AM.

Looking forward to see the new garden furniture... if I'm not too curious!
Your peony is superb. I have no peonies in my garden. Not yet.
Hugs, ciao.

LOL  I love the quotes!  You don't even have to have good health; just the poor memory will do the trick.

Cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age. Christopher Morley - That is my most favorite quote! Where do you find these really good quotes ?! So thats Bonnie & Clyde and they're black furred too, they're beautiful, i sure would like to have them with me! I agree with Marion to experience those raids would been a frightening one, scares me just to think about it.

Y ou mention zeppalins I saw one once it flew over my back yard we were high up in a flat and I got a really good view of it I think it was going to Hendon Airport quite near us. I remember the thrill I and my little friendas felt wattching it Of course the silent frightening ones in our war aorld war 2 were the last lot of bombs that cam over silently towards the end of the war i was outof the war and working in a street in the middle of London when we heard the explosions we felt releived as that one had missed us another one I dosliked were the buzz bombs they used to come over  with sound but when the sound stopped the came crashing down I can remember waiting for a bus to go to work one morning and one of these came over and stopped above it was quite visible I held my breathe and with relief saw it glide about 3 miles away I do not know whether any one was killed as they didn't tell you Hendon had one of the largest ever dropped on Britain there were 2 There was no siren on I was at Matts house abnd we heard the bang and wondered where it had landed  as I rode  home by bus  in the blackout as it entered  Hendon we could hear glass under the wheels when i get out I had no idea what had happened but it wiped out several streets and i lost a lot of  girls who had been at school with me all our house got was a bulge in the  small glass panel in our front door i remember my dad never did repair it  I wrote about this in an English  magazime called "The Best Of British"  a man gave all the details and some conversation  carried on for a few issues as so many people had never heard of it I can't remember how much it weighred but  they said it was ione of 2 of the largest ever launched. I guess my survival was pre ordained as I was in various places in Enland on Camps when I was a W.A.A.F . i WAS LET OUT OF THE waaf.S A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE  the end of ther war so went to work for some accountants and travelled to various places doing the books or rather checking the,m I stayed at that until I was married and expecting Angela then morning sickness made me give it up Matt was still in the Airforce  and near enough to get home weekends until his demob what a liferime ago that was but I can recall it vividly yes I do talk to people as much as I write on here sorry to yack on so Love Marj

It looks like a beautiful summer across the pond, Marie.

I had to laugh at that last quote as well. Always good to see you here.

Zeppelins---- I remember my mother tellng me of a raid on Northampton where she lived, in which a house was bombed.  And also the V2  rockets in W.War 2 which came so fast they left the sound behind ---Marj was right.   Enjoy your holiday  but don't be too long away as we shall miss you    Ron
